Human usage
The “Human Usage Chapter” aims to help you understand the relationship between people and rivers. Rivers have always been very important to human societies and have been used by in both positive and negative ways. This tool will enable you to study different aspects of river usage by people. You will find sub-chapters on agriculture, industry, transport, urbanisation, water use, tourism and leisure activities, historical aspects, protection, and restoration. You may choose to work on all topics or only on some. But please keep in mind that if you do only some chapters, the final score will only valid for these subchapters.
We have determined the scores for some questions but not all. You are asked to discuss the answers you have found and will get a graphic result only after filling in your comments.
You may not be able to answer all the questions; this might be different from country to country. Perhaps you would like to contact a school in another country to see if they have additional information. You can look for a partner under “School List” or “Notice Board”.
Links to the Glossary are provided for the most significant words. You will also find some background information in the Library.
You can find more instructions on how to use the checklist under Instruction for use
Please, note that you need to register in order to enter the collected data into your Book of the river!
